EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Indian Residential School (IRS) Project - St. Paul site (“IRS Project”) was created to focus on the search for unmarked graves at University nuhelot’įne thaiyots’į nistameyimâkanak Blue Quills (UnBQ). Utilizing memory work and archival research to provide direction, the IRS Project works collaboratively with external partners to conduct multiple types of searches, utilizing different technologies to scan the grounds of UnBQ.

UnBQ is currently seeking a full time Administrative Assistant for the IRS Project. They will provide administrative support to the IRS Project team. Applicant philosophy should align with the UnBQ philosophy, vision and mission statements. Please note that this work involves interacting with potentially triggering material.

  • With guidance from the IRS Project Coordinator, greet visitors, answer phone calls, monitor BQIRS email, respond to inquiries, relay messages as necessary;

  • Assist in the creation of communication materials (i.e: reports, memos and documents);

  • Maintain IRS Project recordkeeping;

  • Track, maintain and order gifting supplies, equipment and general inventory;

  • Coordinate travel arrangements for IRS Project team members, Survivors, Guests etc. as needed;

  • Assist in the scheduling, preparation and follow up/debriefing of meeting and interviews with external stakeholders (i.e: IRS Advisory Committee, community engagements etc.), travel may be required;

  • Prepare refreshments, food deliveries etc. as required;

  • Record and prepare minutes of meetings;

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of IRS Project related events (i.e: IRS Gatherings, community engagements, ceremonies etc.);

  • Perform office administrative duties to support the IRS Project team and other departments as required;

  • Other duties that may arise relating to the IRS Project.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Office Administration is considered an asset

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of record keeping

  • Be organized and attentive to details and schedules

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and people

  • Be able to travel as required

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITIONS:
The Saddle Lake Economic Development will provide band membership training in the areas of Laundromat attendant. Provide the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to provide excellent laundry service to the customer.

Basic Abilities:

  • Must be physically fit

  • Must maintain a professional attitude in the workplace

  • Ability to work long hours as well as on weekends if required

  • Well versed in using laundry equipment and maintaining the types of equipment

  • Should have a good business acumen and should target oriented to achieve business goals

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall maintaining the laundromat
    - Cleaning frequently
    - Emptying the dryer vents on a regular basis

  • Must adhere to the policies and regulation of the laundromat

  • Respond to customer complaints in a professional manner

  • Ensure that the laundromat generates profit margins

  • Make sure that all safety and health regulations have been followed

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have Class 7 or 5 & reliable transportation

  • Must be eligible for W.O.P. transfer or Target Wage Subsidy

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Posses excellent customer service and management skills

We promote, protect, and advance First Nations' Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP®) principles, the inherent right to self-determination, and jurisdiction in research and information management. Our organization supports partnerships with our Nation members regarding free, prior, and informed consent to promote credible data owned by First Nation Peoples.

Based in either Calgary or Edmonton, the successful candidate will oversee and coordinate the regional implementation of the First Nations Regional Health Survey (FNRHS), the First Nations Regional Social Survey (FNRSS) and other related data collection projects under the direction and guidance of the Alberta FNIGC and Regional Advisory Committee, including training and overseeing interviewers.

What you might do in a day…

  • Verify data quality standards and funnel information to the Statistical Analysts;

    1. Support Statistical Analysts as they produce the final reports and other related data collection initiatives;

    2. Apply and promote National guidelines on ethics, privacy, and confidentiality;

    3. Provide linkage to other First Nation information and data collection initiatives and other tasks
      as required;

    4. Participate as a member of a national team of First Nations Regional Health Survey (FNRHS), the First Nations Regional Social Survcey (FNRSS), and other related data collection projects

    5. Attend meetings, maintain regular communications with national and regional coordinators, liaise with various federal departments, including FNIHB, ISC, Statistics Canada and their regional offices;

    6. Collect, synthesize, and disseminate information relevant to FNRHS, the FNRSS, and other related data collection projects;

    7. Serve as a point of contact within the Region on research, information, and data
      collection initiatives;

    8. Prepare briefing notes, activity reports, and annual reports, and respond to correspondence as required.

  • Outgoing, gregarious, well-spoken and persuasive; comfortable interfacing with high-level key stakeholders (Chiefs, Councils, Health Directors, other Nation administrators);

    1. Understand the inherent right of Indigenous Peoples to self-determination and jurisdiction in research and information management;

    2. Know the concepts of free, prior, and informed consent to promote credible data owned by Indigenous Peoples;

    3. Known for your negotiation skills and the uncanny ability to multitask and stay organized while managing several time-sensitive projects;

    4. Able to train Knowledge Gatherers in a clear, decisive, and engaging manner; and

    5. Are a solution-oriented and positive individual.

And you have. . .

  • A Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred) related to social sciences, project management or research;

    1. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, Teams and Word;

    2. A clear understanding of First Nations cultural sensitivities and worldviews as well as in-depth knowledge of Indigenous governance, culture, and languages; and

    3. A valid class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and the ability to spend several nights away from home while travelling to more remote nations.
